The Blackmer house is a good example of the elaborate decoration characteristic of the Stick style: turned spindles, irregular shaped shingles and other wood ornament . This was probably a pattern book house combining Stick and Queen Anne features.
The Blackmers were actively involved in real estate development on this side of the 200 block of Forest Avenue. Orlando Blackmer operated a publishing firm in Chicago.
