Original Owner:  Paul Blatchford
Address:  250 Forest Ave.
Architect:  Unknown
Year Built:  1887
Paul Blatchford purchased this lot at the corner of Forest Avenue and Elizabeth Court in May, 1887.  He would be married to Francis Lord later in May; this house was constructed to be the home for his new family.  They called their new home "Plasderw", which is Welsh for home amongst the oaks.

The house is in the stick style and features unusual "keyhole" shaped decoration on the front porch.  Historic photos show the house was originally constructed with this decoration, but it was removed by later owners, see historic photos here.  The porch was restored to its original design in the 1990s.

Other interesting architectural features of the house include the unusual decoration above the second and third floor windows on the front of the house and the balconys above the porch and at the right corner.  The sunroom (the one story addition at the right of the photograph) was added in 1915.

Paul Blatchford worked in his father's business, Blatchford & Co, a lead works.  He later became secretary of the Central Supply Association, which was an association of producers of water, steam and gas supplies.  The Blatchford's only lived in this house until 1890; they then moved a few blocks away to 333 N. Euclid.

Thanks to Susan Olson for her research on this house.
