This lot almost became
the site of Frank Lloyd Wright's first home. Wright purchased the
property from Edwin O. Gale in June, 1888. However, he eventually resold
the property back to Gale a year later, and built his original house directly
across the street.
Christopher McHugh then purchased the property from Gale in February, 1890. He built a very large victorian house (click here for a historic photo) which was later considerably altered. The Wright children were playmates of the McHugh children; they are mentioned in the reminiscenses of several of them, including John Wright's "Our Father, who is on Earth" |
