The Heurtley house, pre and post restoration. Exterior
restoration work included:
- removal of the chimney added in the 1950s after Yaryan
(municipal hot water) heating was no longer available. This chimney is
just barely visible through the tree branches in the top photo, to the left of
the prairie chimney.
- Re-opening the terrace at the south (right) side of the house,
to conform to Wright's original design.
- Removing the awning added over the first floor playroom terrace
(to the right of the entrance arch), and restoring the panel above it to its
original color.
- Installing a new cedar shingle roof and copper gutters of the
same design as the original.
- Tuckpointing of the brick exterior, and cleaning the exterior
surface.
- Cleaning, repairing, restoring or recreating all of the art
glass windows.
