The Grant house is at the top of a ridge, so while it looks like a one story house in the above photo, just the top floor is visible. The lower level contains the living room, dining room, kitchen and utilities areas; the upper level contains 4 bedrooms. The house is entered at the top level and then one descends to the living room from there.

The house is in-line in plan, built on a 4 foot grid.  Unlike many later Wright homes, the grid is not scored in a concrete floor; the house has flagstone for the floor material.  Local stone is used for much of the house; it was quarried by the Grants from their own property.
