Originally a Dutch colonial house, it has
been remodelled extensively over the years. At one time there were no
east-west streets between Lake and Chicago Avenues, when Superior, Erie and
Ontario streets were proposed, Erie would have cut directly through, on a
straight line, where Elizabeth Court is today. A group of local
residents, led by Rev. Humphrey convinced the city elders to create Elizabeth
Court as a curved street, it remains the only curved street in Oak Park
today. |
