This 100 by 150 foot parcel of the Kennedy estate on Kenilworth Avenue was the first portion to be sold off, in 1909.

Village building permits show a building permit issued July 8, 1909, to Mrs. Carpenter, who was the widow of Edward P. Carpenter.  The house was built as a 2-flat, with 2 separate entrances, but resembles a single family home from the street.  Oak Park phone directories dated 1910-1911 also show Mrs. Carpenter residing here.

The house has certain stylistic similarities with the work of E. E. Roberts, who at this time built other 2-flats that resembled single family homes.  However, research thus far has not allowed us to confirm this.
