This cottage sits on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan.  Wright originally intended for it to be a one story structure, but because of the ridge on which the house sits, a basement was added below the bedroom wing.  The entire structure was also rotated 180 degrees from Wright's original intent.  The original stucco and wood trim on the exterior has been replaced in some places by a stone veneer (not visible in the picture above.)
