The McCartney house and the Anthony house in Benton Harbor are both derived from a design Wright originally created as a cottage for his sister Maginel.  This is originally a one room cottage, with a bedroom behind a partition in the large living/dining/workspace room.  It was expected that the house would be enlarged, and within a few months a small bedroom wing with 2 additional bedrooms was added.  In 1956, the original carport was enclosed to create a new master bedroom, and a new carport added to the east of the house.

The house is built on a 4 foot parallelogram grid, with each wing in the form of a triangle.
