Building Name/Owner: Beth Shalom Synagogue Location: Old York Rd. at Foxcroft, Elkins Park, PA Year Built: 1954 The design of the Beth Shalom Synagogue is based on a hexagon with sides of unequal length, so that it more closely resembles a triangle. The main sanctuary is suspended from steel tripod frame that allows the great hall to be free from internal supports. The roof is of translucent glass that allows soft light into the interior. At night, interior light makes the whole building glow.
Inside, Wright designed the Arks that hold the Torahs out of walnut stained brown. He also designed the magnificent chandelier suspended above the congregation.
