Home Building Association Bank
Newark, OH
1914

Because he had to design this building for a narrow lot, Sullivan made this building larger by making it two stories high, something he typically didn't do with his banks. Rather than construct the building with the red brick used in most of the other banks, here Sullivan clad the building with grey-green terra cotta slabs, with his characteristic decoration.

Today, only the exterior of the building remains.  The building was put to a variety of uses after its life as a bank, most recently as an ice cream shop, and all of Sullivan's original interior design was removed.  When we visited some years ago, the building was unused and closed.
