National Farmer's Bank
Owatonna, MN
1908
The first of Sullivan's "jewel boxes" is one of the masterpieces of Sullivan's career. The lavishly decorated interior includes 4 massive electroliers designed by George Elmslie (executed by Winslow Brothers Company, owned by William Winslowe — an important early client of Frank Lloyd Wright), a mural by Oskar Gross, and art glass designed by Louis J. Millet.
A remodeling in 1940 removed many of the interior architectural details. Later restorations in 1958 and 1976 to 1981 returned the building to Sullivan's original design. Today, the building is a bank operated by Wells Fargo.
