As you approach the building from the parking lot, the Research Center looms ahead.  Also designed by Wright, it was built in the 1940's.  The building is designed with a central core containing all the mechanical systems and the elevator.  The outside walls are not load bearing, but are just screens; supported by the cantilevered floors extending out from the central core.  The research center is no longer in use; modern fire codes would have required a fire escape to be installed on the outside of the building.  Rather than do this and destroy the buildings appearance, the company elected to close the building.
