Unitarian Meeting House - Shorewood Hills, WI

The Lloyd-Jones, Frank Lloyd Wright's mother's family, were devout Unitarians.   Wright himself was a member of the Unitarian Society as a boy, and so this church was likely a project with special significance to him.  Wright accepted the commission to design the church in 1946; work was completed by 1951.  The church had limited money to spend on the project and so Wright provided Taliesin associates to help with the construction, and helped with fund raising for the church.  A large group of parishoners also aided in the construction, hauling limestone from a quarry 30 miles away.

The plan is based on a 4 foot unit square parallelogram (a diamond shape); this can be seen scored in the red concerte floor.   Two additional buildings have been added later; these were constructed by the Taliesin Associated Architects in a style sympathetic to the original structure.
